October 11th, 1972... My intro. I think it was a thursday, but I was really too little to remember. The only thing I remember is that it was my birthday, so I figured it would be nice of me to show up for it.
I was born in a small village called Woerden, very quickly, I guess I was eager to come out and see the world?! So there I was... A tiny baby with curly red hair. Cute as hell... (By the way; I never got that expression; Cute as hell. Not that I've ever been there; but from what I hear; what's cute about hell?) Oh, and please meet Mimi, my best friend. Mimi, meet the world. Anyway, I'm the daughter of an Indonesian mommy and a Dutch daddy. May he rest in peace...
So yes, I'm biracial, or mixed, or whatever you want to call it. I think I got my mothers looks, but my dads personality.
My brother, Mike, was already here, when I arrived. He's 5 1/2 years older than me. So he could lift me up, change my diaper and be a real big brother to me... I've always looked up to him, and not just because he's obviously a lot taller...
We've always been real close, but not literally though: He lives all the way on the other side of this planet. In Sydney, Australia. He moved there almost two years ago, for his job... Some people only dream of accomplishments, but he stayed awake and made it happen! Therefor I admire him, envy him, but I also miss him sooo much! But the good news is... I'M GOING THERE!!! In a few weeks even! See that pretty picture on the left here? That's where he will be getting married to his beautiful girl Kirsty, whom he met on the internet by the way, (hmmm... inspiration?!) on September 8th.
Yeah, I guess it's no punishment to have to go there... I can't wait!
So let me get back to my story...
The Story of me, Veronique, also known as (Very) Vicky, Vickalicious, The Vick'ster, Vicious, Victim... etc... But feel free to make up your own lil nickname for me. I practically listen to about everything.
Growing up I was a big Barbie fan... I guess it helps when you have a very vivid imagination...
I had a regular "As The Barbieworld Turns" thing going on in my bedroom... I had the Barbies, the Skippers, the Cindys, a Ken, and even a Lone Ranger Doll that made all the female dolls' heads turn. (In my days there was no G.I.Joe) He was so sexy... Hm, wouldn't be my type now though. I didn't like Ken much. He was cheating on Barbie with all the other dolls! Lol... (I guess that should have been a clue right there: never date a man with plastic hair) No, don't get me wrong... Even if my heart has been broken a couple of times, I still believe in LOVE. I'm just waiting for it to happen... Oh that reminds me, did you take The Poll yet? (disabled)
So there I was, just an ordinary girl, growing up, like all the other ordinary girls... I had many hobbies.
I played the piano... Had lessons for 6 years! I love music! I still do... I can't picture a day without any music. That's just too hard. I was a singer too for a while. I performed in a couple of bands all throughout Holland. But now my passion is writing... Music, lyrics, stories... If you want to find out more about that, you should check out the My Gift page.
But back to when I was a little girl (not that I'm a lot bigger now, but still...): I wanted to be a balletdancer. But I guess I wasn't built to be a dancer... But I really love(d) dancing though. From hiphop to breakdancing to classical and latin. And I also wanted to be a swimmer. I loved frolicing around in the water... So I joined a swimmingclub at the age of 4. But then my ballet and swimming practices were on the same day, so I had to choose between the two... And being a LIBRA... Choosing is not something that we enjoy doing. But we are very creative thinkers, so I combined the two. And that's how I started synchronized swimming. From the age of 4 to the age of 17 you could find me in the pool... Almost daily. Holding my breath for minutes at the time. Usually with my legs up above the water... What a beautiful sport!
As a young girl, I had the priveledge to travel around and see the world. My mom was an airline stewardess, so she took us along on her flights, or we got really great discounts on our holidays. My grandparents owned a house in Malaga, Spain, so that's where I spent most of my summers growing up. I've been to so many other places... I've seen a lot of countries in Europe; Belgium, Germany, France, Great Brittain, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Luxemburg, Austria, Malta... Also a large part of the United States; I have family in Long Island, NY, so besides the Big Apple, I've been to New Jersey, Washington DC, Philly, Baltimore, Phoenix, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Chicago, Indianapolis, LA, San Fran, Vegas, all those beautiful little places along the Westcoast, Minneapolis-St Paul, a large part of Minnesota, cuz I lived there for a while (but we'll get to that later). Other countries, such as: Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Tunesia, Turkey, Kenya (which by the way was the most impressive place in the world to me) And now Australia...
I guess travelling enriches you in a way that no study could ever do. You get to see first-hand what people in different parts of the world look like, how they live, what they go through, what they eat, what language they speak, their charme, their culture. It has been such a gift to me. I'm always eager to learn new things. I guess that explains why I speak 6 languages... Or maybe I'm just so d*mn smart?!
